Blood flow in high-tension and normal-tension glaucoma

Glaucoma: more than just eye pressure

On this webpage we discuss the vascular etiology, vascular mechanisms and vascular treatment of glaucoma. We ask why certain glaucoma patients have an increase in optic disc excavation or visual field loss, even though the eye pressure - spontaneously or with therapy - is normal. We analyze the mechanism by which blood flow has an influence on glaucoma damage and what the therapeutic consequences are.
Since in the literature the term glaucoma is not always used in the same way, we define at the beginning what exactly we mean by glaucoma in this context.
