Vasospasm, its Role in the Pathogenesis of Diseases with Particular Reference to the Eye
Josef Flammer and his colleagues were the first to postulate that vasospasm are involved in the development of glaucoma damage. Here you will find a review summarizing these studies. Later, the same group recognized that vasospasm are one component of a more global disorder and therefore introduced the term vascular dysregulation.

Ocular Vaspospasm in Children
HJ Kaiser, J Flammer, P Gasser:
Ocular vasospasm in children
Vasospasms can occur already in childhood. Mostly they appear as reversible visual field defects during emotional stress. Today we know that they are not actual spasms, but rather a manifestation of primary vascular dysregulation, usually as a component of Flammer syndrome. This in turn is usually predisposed, but manifests itself especially after puberty and then weakens throughout life, in women especially a few years after menopause.
